By embedding itself and placing centre stage two distinct and characteristic locations in Beppu city, through a series of innovative and exciting live events, Beppu Music channels and presents the essence of creative ability that exists in Beppu to as wide an audience as possible.

Firstly, Beppu Kokusai Kankoukokou (Beppu International Port) a location for both sightseers and travelers alike is a major focus of this year's music program.

A symbol of immigrant culture and a gateway to diversity and exchange, Beppu Kokusai Kankoukokou is a unique location, one that offers the opportunity of contact and engagement with residents of Beppu and those from distant shores.

Secondly, Yahata Asami Shrine. A spiritual 'safe harbor' for both residents and visitors alike, offers Beppu music the opportunity of fusing modern dance and ancient beliefs in this most sacred places.

Working sympathetically and harmoniously with both locations, Beppu music aims to heighten awareness of the central role that Beppu Kokusai Kankoukokou and Yahata Asami Shrine have played and continue to play in Beppu's life and local culture.

Musicians will accompany with music the departure of Beppu's famous "Mayflower" liner as its sets out for a distant port as well as welcoming its return with a swansong to the close of its most recent journey.

Opening Time: 7:30 p.m. Curtain rises at 8 p.m. Curtain falls on the following day at 4 a.m.

Beppu music @Yahata asami shrine

#02 Asami live

Asami shrine is steeped in over 800 years of history. Overlooking and embracing the bay of Beppu and much loved, and respected by locals, Asami shrine represents the spirit of Beppu's residents, offering spiritual support and a safe haven.

During the performance Ainu traditional instruments will be played in newly composed arrangements. Appearing as part of the event are OKI DUB AINU BAND, OOIOO, Otomo Yoshio, and Yamauchi Kei. OKI DUB AINU BAND express through their music an original world view, whilst OOIOO express an innovative approach. Coupled with this Otomo Yoshihide's eclectic arrangements without distinct reference to any specific musical genre and Yamauchi Kei's impromptu saxophone music all offer a wealth of musical styles for your enjoyment.
