A traditional style Japanese hotel that still retains the charm and ambiance of the ultra-modernist Meiji Era, the 100-year-old tenement house, the former guesthouse built in the early stages of Showa era, the shrine and harbour which for decades have offered protection for seafarers and families alike ... these unique places all of which represent Beppu's long and rich history will become "Art Gate Cruise", through the creative endeavours of eight leading international artists, who themselves have long-since left their own home country, and taking the form of site-specific installations, the commissioned works reflect both the artists own history and sense of place as well as the diverse nature of Beppu's links with the wider world...
