Born 1938, Istanbul, Turkey.
Moved to Paris, France in 1964 after majoring in interior architecture at Academy of Fine Arts (Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts).
He is an artist known as "Captain Sarkis," who travels around the world. Though rarely known in Japan, he has participated many international exhibitions including "When Attitude Becomes Form" a legendary exhibition in 1969, "Documenta" in 1977 and 1982 and "Istanbul Biennale" He has held more than 100 solo exhibitions. The artist does not prefer exhibitions where works are presented like treasures. He claims it is important to exhibit pieces so that there would be lively interactions between his works and visitors. A major retrospective exhibition of his works is planned at Musses de Paris in the summer of 2009. You can enjoy his present works interwoven in Beppu.
